The destructive hailstorm last week ravaged pockets of the South Plains. In the aftermath of the storm some fortunate areas were left unscathed but others were battered, resulting in much plant injury.
For homes and landscapes struck by the hail, the damage reads like a botanic obituary: leaves were shredded, ripped and punctured; branches broken and leaves stripped from trees; developing fruit pockmarked; flowers stripped and bashed; container plants smashed; garden seedlings pummeled.

Tomatoes are the top garden crop in America. That statistic is certainly reflected in the bench space given to tomato plants in garden centers and nurseries.
Gardeners can find seedlings in 4- and 6-packs, in single 3-inch pots up to 1-gallon sized large caged plants. Varieties include heirlooms and hybrids; cherry, Roma and juicy Beefsteak types; bush and vining growth habits; yellows, reds, oranges and purples. Regardless of the kind or variety of tomato, there are general guidelines for planting and care of tomato transplants.

Gardens without a patch of Garden sorrel are missing a culinary treat! Sorrel is an underused, tasty salad green with a tangy zing that is easy to grow.
As one of the first vegetables to pop up in the spring, it gives a garden instant green. And when gardeners are still coaching lettuce to become established, sorrel is already off and running. This is a perfect salad green for container crops on the back patio as it keeps producing providing attractive tasty nutritious greens all summer.

WOLFFORTH, Texas –
A young farmer and Entrepreneur now faces major obstacles after part of his farm burned last Friday.
Ethan Carter, owner of Ethan’s Earthy Edibles and E3 Farms said his workshop caught on fire after a plug exploded.
“This was our nursery, had all our transplants, an entire micro-green business, and all of our tools and equipment as well,” Ethan said. “So all that is basically melted now.”
