The seventeenth Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market for the 2018 season will be held this Saturday morning September 15th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 19th & Buddy Holly. There are only four markets left in the 2018 market season. This market will be our Student Appreciation market.
The September 15th market was a lot of fun and well attended. The beautiful fall weather makes Saturday morning shopping at the market a pleasurable experience. There were almost 50 vendors at this market and a lot of new products made their first appearance at this market.
The number of produce vendors continues to increase as new crops are beginning to reach their ideal harvest time. Our collection of local agriculture producers from vendors including Onion Shed Farms, E3 Farms. Block 20 Produce, Zuke’s Farm, Vonnie’s Veggies, Revolution Farms, Sunburst Farms, Wild Bill’s Veggies Rose Farms and more are selling farm fresh produce. Products in season that were offered by these vendors were Squash, Onions, Fresh Eggs, Micro Greens, Spring Mix, Spinach, Kale, Chard, Stir Fry Mix, Beets, Radishes, Snap Peas, Dill, Sunflower Shoots, Pea Shoots, Rainbow Mix, Radish Shoots, Turnips, Watermelons, Cantaloupes, Peaches, Apples, Black-Eyed Peas, and fresh Tomatoes! The number and variety of vine ripened tomatoes has increased significantly and will improve even further as the season progresses. There were also plenty of fresh peaches and black-eyed peas at this market. The Orchard had a larger variety of apples and mini pears at this market. They were very popular and there should be an even larger variety at this upcoming market as well. We had back by popular demand a smoked Hatch green chili jam by one of our vendors! Expect an even larger variety of local produce and food options as the season progresses and more produce is harvested.
The large number of guests attending this market were well fed. We had prepared food offerings from
our food truck court and the return of the Farm to Fork food truck at this market. There were also plenty of cold and hot beverage choices from The Stand, The Coffee Can, and Golden Stripe Coffee. And don’t Forget all of the fresh baked goods and sweets from vendors such as Amor Cocoa, Percy’s Bakery, Heaven Sent Gluten Free Foods, Sooo Granola and Sarita’s Organic Tortilla’s organic dessert empanadas and churro cookies. Sarita’s are now selling a wider selection of fresh made tamales! They have become a market favorite…be sure to try them at this week’s market.
The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market provides a family friendly environment and offers a safe, exciting atmosphere in downtown Lubbock. We are also very dog friendly for our well behaved, leashed four-legged visitors. Many of our vendors provide dog bowls to keep your fur babies well hydrated. Our vendor, Sweet Pup Treats sell fresh made doggy treats and The Stand even offers Doggie Snow Cones! Each week we take a photo of the Dog of The Day sponsored by The Tornado Gallery. Congrats to Indy (short for Indiana Jones). This adventurous guy was the September 15th Tornado Gallery ‘Dog of the Day!’ Way to go Indy…he’s a good boy! If your dog has been DOTD this year or last, stop by Tornado Gallery for your gift!
