June 22nd Market Review
Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market’s June 22nd market had some very welcome cloudy cover this past market that helped keep temperatures down for most of the morning. A little bit of sprinkles didn’t keep shoppers away as it was a busy morning. Forty-five vendors were in attendance at this market with a few vendors appearing at the market for the first time this season as well as new food trucks this week!
We had vendors returning like the Bent Spoke and Revolution Farms! This week’s market gave us a small glimpse into what vendors will have available as the season progresses as they phase out winter vegetables and bring in the summer growing season. Now that we are getting further into the summer, we are starting to see more summer veggies like tomatoes, onions, squashes, peppers, green beans, and others! If it’s tomatoes you are looking for, tune in the next few weeks as the small amount that are available now will double and triple in the next month. Vendors also had microgreens, mint, onions, mizuna, spinach, kale, corn, squash, peaches, chard, and salad mixes. The vendors also had jar goods like pickles from Grandma Nettie’s Pickles, jellies at multiple stands, fruit preserves, and infused olive oils. Something I thought was fun was that Block 20 infuses honey with different flavors like blackberry, apricot, peach, and cinnamon. Also, in attendance were vendors selling fresh eggs, chicken, pork and beef products with samples available on sticks like from Holy Cow Beef!
LDFM also has vendors who sell baked goods for you and your pups! We have folks like Heaven Sent Gluten Free Foods whose products are all gluten free, organic tortillas from Sarita’s, lots of treat vendors with baked goods and candy goods, a chocolate stand, and those who specialize in treat for our furry friends! Treatsies was serving up a crowd favorite, peant brittle, as well as dollar suckers in various shapes and flavors! The market also had vendors specializing in wine, jewelry, macramé, art prints, organic spa products, and more!
For those who just came to browse and enjoy the atmosphere, or those shopping and wanting to eat there LDFM proudly offers a food truck court made up of local trucks that can vary from week to week. LDFM welcomed Crusty’s Pizza to the market this week, if you missed one of your favorite food truck vendors they rotate often so just come back the next week and you may be able to catch them. The choices were great this week as there were fruit cups to eat healthy and keep cool with as well as kettle corn to snack on while you grab groceries for the week! The Garden is graciously allowing market goers to eat their findings in their patio area while being able to enjoy live music each week. LDFM also enjoys our coffee stands for great tasting coffee to keep us on our toes!
The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market provides a family friendly environment and offers a safe, exciting atmosphere in downtown Lubbock. We are also very dog friendly for our well behaved, leashed four-legged visitors. Many of our vendors provide dog bowls to keep your fur babies well hydrated. Our vendor, Sweet Pup Treats sell freshly made doggy treats and The Stand even offers Doggie Snow Cones! Each week we take a photo of the Dog of The Day sponsored by The Tornado Gallery. A few weeks ago we had the animal shelter host an adoption event at the market, and we are glad to say they will be back each month to give our shoppers a chance to find a forever friend! This fabulous dog is Ollie! Ollie is our Tornado Gallery ‘Dog of the Day!’ for June 22nd. Congrats Ollie!
