August 3rd Market Review
The first market in August was surprisingly cool one as there was constant cloud cover and a nice breeze. There were fifty-one vendors, all with a great selection of veggies, treats, and meats. The Humane Society was back this week with lots of cute dogs up for adoption. If you missed them don’t worry, the market isn’t the only place to adopt them and they will be back at the market the first Saturday in September.
The veggies looked great this week as we now have okra blessing the market and Black-eyed Peas are making their way as their season is upon us. Rose Farms had okra, green beans, cantaloupe, corn, potatoes (a rare find), onions, and more! Another great stand this week was Briggs Home Grown with herb plants, GRAPES, varieties of peppers, squashes, onions and more. The market for the most part had varieties of squashes (many!), onions, tomatoes, okra, peppers (again, many kinds!), celery, carrots, potatoes, and more! We had grapes, strawberries, peaches, and many types of melons (it’s their season, get them while they’re hot!).
We also have meat options at the market. Diamond C has bacon and sausage, many different types of beef including bones for broth, and different cuts of lamb as well. Holy Cow Beef also carries varieties of beef, pork, chicken, and fish. We have Honey Hen farms also who sell chicken when available, but mostly eggs in different sizes. If you’re looking for egg variety Onion Shed farms has duck eggs!
We were happy to welcome a new baker this week, Café Beni, a much-requested addition to the market. This week they offered a variety of boule, cinnamon rolls, strawberry lemon sweet rolls, French toast casserole, and kolaches! We also have many treat bakers as well as one with gluten free options!
LDFM has more than just food, as we have lavender spa products, candles, balms, t-shirts, jewelry, and more. There are also vendors that sell dog treats, doggie bag holders, dog outfits, dog bandanas, shampoos, and paw balms! We are lucky enough to also have a great relationship with dogs here at LDFM, even having stands dedicated specifically for them such as treats and outfits! Many vendors provide water bowls to keep your furry friends well hydrated. The Humane Society was back this week, and they will be back at the market on the first Saturday market each month of the 2º19 season giving you the chance to add a loving addition to your family. Each week we take a photo of the Dog of The Day sponsored by The Tornado Gallery. Parker (pictured below) the “One-eyed Wonder” is not only a rescue but he is also our Tornado Gallery ‘Dog of the Day’ for the August 3rd market!
