August 17th Market Review
What was going to be a very hot market turned into a breezy, cloudy, and slightly rainy one! This season LDFM has been blessed with accommodating weather, whether it would be cloud cover and a breeze or a random cold front come through in the middle of the summer, it has not been too hot to shop this year. LDFM had another great week with over 45 vendors as well as many shoppers, even when we were about to close!
The popular produce this week was watermelons, as we had vendors selling out left and right, and peppers as we had vendors selling 4 or more varieties where you were able to mix and match (Briggs Homegrown). Lots of summer veggies were available with squash, zucchini, green beans, okra, onions, tomatoes, black eyed peas, potatoes, corn, bell peppers, jalapenos and other spicy peppers, celery, carrots, lettuce, kale, chard, and more! We also had berries, strawberries, peaches, and melon varieties. Our vendors have a lot of knowledge they would love to share with you about all of their produce, where it comes from, how it grows, and even how to cook it. If you’re looking to start growing your own plants we have vendors who sell herb plants like basil and dill, as well as a vendor who sells citrus tree varieties like grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime!
We also have meat options at the market. Diamond C has bacon and sausage, many different types of beef including bones for broth, and different cuts of lamb as well. Holy Cow Beef, who you smell each week with the sausage on a stick, also carries varieties of beef, pork, chicken, and fish. They actually get their fish from another vendor who uses them in hydroponic farming (so be sure to ask questions to learn more!) We have Honey Hen farms also who sell whole chicken or cuts as well as eggs in different sizes. If you’re looking for egg variety Onion Shed farms has duck eggs!
We were happy to welcome a new baker last week, Café Beni, a much-requested addition to the market. This week they offered a variety of boule, cinnamon rolls, strawberry lemon sweet rolls, French toast casserole, and kolaches! We also have many treat bakers as well as one with gluten free options! They have even doubled what they bring to the market as they sold out so quickly. Be sure to come early to get a taste of their wonderful baking! We love all of out treat stands with varieties like Texas Trash, homemade chocolate, lolliepops, and more. There’s always something for someone!!
LDFM has more than just food, as we have lavender spa products, candles, balms, t-shirts, jewelry, and more. There are also vendors that sell dog treats, doggie bag holders, dog outfits, dog bandanas, shampoos, and paw balms! We are lucky enough to also have a great relationship with dogs here at LDFM, even having stands dedicated specifically for them such as treats and outfits! Many vendors provide water bowls to keep your furry friends well hydrated. Also the Humane Society is at the market the first Saturday of each month giving you the chance to add a loving addition to your family. Each week we take a photo of the Dog of The Day sponsored by The Tornado Gallery. This week we had to pick two “Dogs of the Day”. Congratulations to BB and Candy pictured below!
