Our kick off day this year at the Market was a windy one! We expect that occasionally. We had the dreaded attempted escape of a couple of canopies, but luckily they were quickly wrangled and kept from blowing down the street. I saw many hat grabs too with people protecting their hats from the gusty winds. We had 42 vendors to open the market season. There was a modest, but steady crowd of shoppers from beginning to end. We know that competing with holidays like Memorial Day can reduce the number of available shoppers, however I met a young couple from Pecos, Texas who had come to Lubbock to see family and have a short vacation. The market when in full swing will bring shoppers from area towns and visitors from all around the nation. The most important thing is we were able to get this year rolling and we look forward to a successful Market season.
There is never a shortage of strollers pushed along by proud parents, and what an exciting event for the dogs! For dog lovers, this is the place to be on Saturday morning. We have so many dogs that we pick one each week to be our Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Week. This is Lucy, our winner for the day. She is not too worried about the wind or the competition.
It was great to see the old time vendors again, and also some new folks that are giving the Market a try. As always, but especially during the first few Markets, there are gatherings of people catching up with one another and that is ALWAYS a good thing to see. The Market is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours shopping, visiting with old friends, and making new ones. It is a great place to experience the joy of shiny little babies and happy dogs, as well as unique crafts and homemade foods. We hope you will set aside a Saturday morning to stop by and experience this wonderful community event.
Last year, we began highlighting individual vendors and telling their story so that you the reader could become more well acquainted with the Market. This week we’d like to introduce you to Charity Farthling, who has an eclectic booth called DR. CHARITY’S HAUS OF TREASURES. Charity has been to the Market for 6 years now, and has tie-dyes, crystals, plants, wrapped sage bundles, and home décor. Her business was spawned by her love of geology and horticulture, and her desire to share this with others. She has her own greenhouse, loves the out-of-doors, and being self-employed. You can find her on Facebook + TikTok @Charityalice69
We would like to thank everyone who came out to the market this week and we hope to see you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market!
