Lubbock Downtown Farmer’s Market June 11, 2022 Market Review
by Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
This was our 3rd Market of the year, and it was windy and very hot! We encourage people to come early to beat the heat. We had a good variety of vendors at this market. The stream of shoppers was slow to start, but got better as the morning progressed. Being a Children’s Book author, I am very aware of baby strollers and wagons and the children in general. I believe that this is a great activity for parents that want to just get out and be social with their kids. As always there are many gathering that happen with lively conversation and genuine joy in meeting friends coincidentally.
We are still a few weeks away from the fruits and vegetables, but our regular vendors are holding the fort down until the bounty arrives. Arts and crafts, baked goods, coffee, sausage on a stick, accessories for your beloved family dog… we’ve got those things and more at the Market. We also have free dog treats and lollipops. Our dog population is always well represented and so we like to recognize one special dogs as our Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day. Meet Griselda!
We see Griselda and her master/ best friend often during the season and felt she deserved to be recognized for her faithful attendance and sweet disposition. Congratulations Griselda! We are just getting started with the market season and hope that you will wander on down to 19th and Buddy Holly any Saturday morning from 9:00 to 1:00 to see what we have to offer and perhaps bump into old friends and find new friends as well.
Our highlighted vendor this week is SUN SPICE HOT SAUCE. Josh and Kim Hamilton started coming to the market at the end of last years season, and have been making their sauce for a couple of years now. Josh says the idea came from his love of hot sauce, and he wanted to try and create one of his very own. He tried various peppers and methods until he came up with the flavor he was looking for! And it’s so good! He has opted to use vegan butter to appeal to those vegans out there! Come down and get a sample, and you’ll probably walk away with your own bottle!
We hope to see you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market. The next market is Saturday June 11th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 19th Street and Buddy Holly Ave. We look forward to seeing you next Saturday!
