LDFM Market Review September 3rd 2022
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
Well what would you do if you woke up and went into your kitchen and an elephant was there to greet you? That was kind of the way it felt as vendors showed up only to find a giant stage being erected in our Market spot. Normally the stage for the Blue Light Labor Day Weekend concert sets up further down Buddy Holly Ave., but not this year. It left the Lubbock Downtown Farmer’s Market staff of Chuck, Cherilyn, Jay and Sarah faced with a bit of confusion and a lot of redirection of vendor locations However, the Market was quickly reconfigured in order to accommodate both the elephant in the kitchen and the vendors. It worked out fine as the shoppers arrived and the vendors got comfortable with their new arrangement.
The morning was so nice, with a steady breeze that kept things cool. We had a few new vendors that helped to keep things fresh. The Texas Tech home football game and the new school semester helped in bringing some new folks to the Market. I met a couple from Murray, Kentucky who were here to support their Murray State Racers. There were five young ladies that stopped by my booth who were here for the Fall Semester at Tech and four of the five ladies were from other parts of the State. We vendors were compact and that seemed nice. Our normal space was cut in half so there was certainly a different feel to the Market. I noticed that several of the stage hands were shopping and supporting the market during their breaks.
Since I sell children’s books I notice when I see new young families attending, and according to my estimate we are seeing a lot of them coming to our Market. We appreciate the kids and their parents for choosing our Market for their Saturday outing. We also want to thank the dog and kitty cat owners who showed up. It is not often, but we occasionally have a cat in a pack on the back or on a leash. We had one cat enjoying the scene and many dogs.
We always choose a Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day in a show of appreciation of our canine friends and their owners. So we would like you to meet Molly, who was sharply dressed and eager to represent all the pets who stopped by to support our Market. We are happy to report that our farmers are still bringing beautiful produce and fresh fruits. Our bakers and pastry chefs are bringing food made with tender loving care. And our arts and crafts vendors have gifts and goods for all occasions. We hope that you will support these local business men and women who bring their produce and crafts in hopes that you will come out and inspect all the good things we have to offer. We are opened every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We are located at 19th and Buddy Holly Ave. We hope to see you there.
We also highlight a new vendor each week, and this time we are introducing Gaby Tinglund with TINGLUND PHOTOGRAPHY. Gaby has a degree in photography from North West College, and offers a myriad of her prints in various sizes. She loves photographing people ( infants are her favorite), but many of her photos are of animals and nature. You can choose matted or mounted, and she also has frames if you need. Gaby also brings her polaroid camera if you’d like an on the spot momento!
Thank you for attending the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market each Saturday and we hope to see you next Saturday!
