Visit the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market 0n the LHUCA Plaza (5th STREET & AVE J)
The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market, the original and still the best market for locally grown produce returns to downtown Lubbock on Saturday July 8th from 9:00 Am to 1:00 PM and every Saturday through October 14th.
After 14 years located in the Depot District, the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market has moved to the Downtown Arts District! This season we have relocated to the plaza behind the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts at 511 Avenue K. We will also have vendors set up on 5th Street between Avenue K & Avenue J. This move provides a more scenic environment and a more enjoyable shopping experience for our market shoppers and vendors.
Visit the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market Saturday, July 15th at our NEW LOCATION in the LHUCA PLAZA (5th St & Ave J) from 9:00AM to 1:00PM for a taste of downtown Lubbock, and the finest in local produce, meat, baked goods and arts. We are a kid friendly, dog friendly, family event in the heart of the Downtown Arts District. Be sure to say “Thank You” to our hard-working and dedicated vendors! We are excited to be located in the thriving downtown arts district and hope to see all of our loyal shoppers in this new location.
July 8, 2023 Market Review
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
What a truly beautiful morning we had for set up at the Market. We begin at 7:00 am and thankfully it is comfortable during the 2 hours that vendors arrive and put out their canopies and wares. There is a lot of back and forth from the vehicle to your set up spot, so it is easy to break a good sweat on a sunny morning. With little cloud cover, we knew we were in for a very warm and sunny morning. We added some vendors this week, and the Plaza seems to accommodate additional vendors very well. The shoppers showed up slowly, but they continued to increase in number throughout the morning.
The temperature rose slowly and steadily also, so we encourage shoppers to come early. You beat the heat, and are first in line to get what everybody else wants, like fresh fruit and vegetables. BUT, come whenever you can! We had Bahama Bucks in attendance again and Suga T’s and D’s fresh squeezed lemonade, so maybe two of our vendors didn’t mind the warm morning so much! I noticed quite a lot of lemonade and shaved ice being enjoyed by our shoppers. We had a pretty standard day of families and dogs, with lots of mingling and chitter chatter, people strolling from booth to booth checking things out. Our surrounding areas are showing up too, with folks visiting from Littlefield and New Deal. I am beginning to see and recognize our regular attendees, and I am making new friends with every Market.
We had Mr. Kent the Spin Art Artist for the first time and hope he returns. He brings an extra energy to an event! He donates his time and the money he collects to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
We have added a little perk to our weekly Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day award. Each and every dog that wins will receive a beautiful red and black bandana to take home and wear with pride. It will look great on Balthazar, our Dog of the Day! Congratulations Balthazar!
As the morning gave way to the afternoon, the temperature got into the hot zone and the number of shoppers began to slow. As I have stated, set up is somewhat slow and easy, but breakdown goes much quicker. We watch a once busy Plaza have fewer and fewer canopies until they are all down, and the Plaza is once again empty. Another Market has come and gone. We invite you to stop and shop with our small businesses at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market where we have fresh produce, artwork, craftwork, fresh cut flowers, sauces, baked goods, and various food and drinks. We will be at 5th and Ave. J every Saturday through the summer and fall from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and hope you will spend some time with us soon!
We also hope you’ll stop by Andi Applewhite’s booth and buy you and/or a friend a bunch of her dried lavender. She grows the grosso lavender (has a high oil content) on a piece of land that belonged to her great grandfather in Lone Star, Texas. She and her father put a vineyard in part of the land in 2016, but Andi wanted to try growing something that would need less water. Her 180 plants are doing well, and dried lavender retains its great smell for a long time! Andi also is a part of the art display inside LHUCA of the print collective called Think Ink. Welcome Andi!
Thanks for coming out to the July 8th market and we hope to see you next Saturday at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market in the LHUCA Plaza (5th Street & Avenue J).
