Visit the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market 0n the LHUCA Plaza (5th STREET & AVE J)
The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market, the original and still the best market for locally grown produce returns to downtown Lubbock on Saturday July 29th from 9:00 Am to 1:00 PM and every Saturday through October 14th.
After 14 years located in the Depot District, the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market has moved to the Downtown Arts District! This season we have relocated to the plaza behind the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts at 511 Avenue K. We will also have vendors set up on 5th Street between Avenue K & Avenue J. This move provides a more scenic environment and a more enjoyable shopping experience for our market shoppers and vendors.
Visit the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market this Saturday, Aigust 5th at our NEW LOCATION in the LHUCA PLAZA (5th St & Ave J) from 9:00AM to 1:00PM for a taste of downtown Lubbock, and the finest in local produce, meat, baked goods and arts. We are a kid friendly, dog friendly, family event in the heart of the Downtown Arts District. Be sure to say “Thank You” to our hard-working and dedicated vendors! We are excited to be located in the thriving downtown arts district and hope to see all of our loyal shoppers in this new location.
Market Review July 29, 2023
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
Hot and hotter has been the daily forecast, and Saturday was no different. The morning was clear and the sun was ready to pound down upon us. We had a good number of vendors and some special things for the kids. We had a scavenger hunt that kept the kids busy visiting different vendors. Mr. Kent the spin art master was there and is always a treat for the children and adults too! Our special guests of the week were the Lubbock Beekeepers who were showing kids of all ages the importance and wonder of the honey bee. Thank you Beekeepers! We hope you will come back soon. We appreciate these special events that help to keep our Market interesting, educational, and fun.
It’s a place to bring the whole family. We had a steady stream of shoppers, but it seemed that our numbers were a little lower this week. I think because of the heat and so many things happening around the area. The Broadway play Hamilton at the Buddy Holly Performance Center for the Arts finished it’s two week run, and the Cattle Barron’s Ball was on Saturday evening. There was a Back to School Free Rabies Shots event in Slaton and other markets going on around the area also. Again we stood well against the competition and the Market was nice and busy.
But then the heat set in and the flow of shoppers slowed around noon. We had lots of out of town guests including folks from Waxahachie, Midland, and Phoenix, Arizona. The young lady from Phoenix mentioned the noticeable difference between our 100 degree heat and the 120 degree heat she left behind in Phoenix. Can you imagine? The trivial exchanges between customers and vendors is one of my favorite parts of being a vendor!
Speaking of the heat, we encourage people to come out early. We have air conditioned spaces in the art galleries to take refuge in, but business outside is best done before the temperatures become too hot. The farm fresh produce is flying off the shelves, and that is another good reason to shop early. Our regular shoppers showed up, and we want to thank all of those folks who come out and support our Market every weekend. There are some who continue to look for us at our old location, and we have placed a sign there informing people where we have moved.
Things are moving along well and we are working to improve the Market as we grow. We encourage pet owners to bring their pets along for the experience. We actually had some dog trainers with their dog students working on their social skills. We make sure the dogs have cool water and doggie treats to keep them happy. We also like to show our appreciation for our pet visitors by proclaiming one dog Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day! We were happy to have Daisy at the Market and say congratulations Daisy!
We will be back next week with all kinds of great produce, baked goods, homemade sauces, honey, mushrooms, local wine and all kinds of arts and crafts. We hope you and your family and friends will schedule a visit to see us at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market at 5thand Ave. J in the Plaza. Every Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Another new vendor joining us this year is BRISTLECONE FARMS. Jordan Norton and Rosario Morroquin-Flores are creating a nice array of natural self-care products. They have Dandy (infused with dandelion) Salve and Calendula Salve, which are great for insect bites and skin abrasions, insect repellent with apple cider vinegar and various plants, Steal Your Face facial mask made with betonite clay, Leafy Lips lip balm with bees wax, peppermint, and sunflower oil, and A Walk in the Woods beard oil to soothe dry skin. Jordan is also a licensed massage therapist. I recommend getting in his message chair and letting him work on those stress spots!
Thank you to everyone who visited the July 29th market and we hope to see you next week for the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market in the LHUCA Plaza at 5th Street & Ave J from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM!
