Only three remaining markets in the 2023 season
Market Review Sept. 23rd 2023
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
We had a beautiful morning for our Market. The vendor count was low, but we filled our space at the LHUCA Plaza, and enjoyed a steady stream of customers throughout the morning. Even so late in our season people are still finding us and experiencing our Market for the first time. We had folks from Dripping Springs and Odessa stop in. As usual, the South Plains Fair took some of our vendors and affected the number of shoppers, but for the most part we had a good Market with enough vendors and visitors to call it a successful and enjoyable morning.
We are closing in on the final three Markets of the year. The mornings are proving to be very pleasant, which sure make our vendors very happy. There is still the chatter and laughter resounding in the Plaza as our vendors set up. Of course that carries over into the Market time with our visitors as they meet and greet and get to know the different vendors as they converse and shop. The Texas Tech student population is contributing to our Market and I enjoy finding out where they come from and what they are studying.
We are still getting a variety of produce including beautiful tomatoes, onions, okra, peppers, eggplant, assorted squash, black-eyed peas and much more. We had watermelons, cantaloupe, and now pumpkins for our Halloween decorations. We have plenty of canned good, salsas, freeze dried candies and beef jerky that are all great for long time storage. We have two local wine makers to choose from, and they are happy to have you sample the different types of wines they offer. Let’s not forget the bakers who bring beautiful cookies, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls and breads. As we get closer to the Holiday Season we have all types of arts and crafts and boutique clothing for your early Christmas shopping. All kinds of gifts are available for all occasions.
We believe that our canine friends always make our Market a better, friendlier place for us all. We like to show our appreciation to those of you who bring your dogs for us all to enjoy by awarding one dog the title of Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog or the Day. Donzi was so well behaved and beautiful that we choose him, and say “Congratulations Donzi”!
With only a few more Markets left we encourage you to stop by and see what we have to offer. We will be in the LHUCA Plaza for three more Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We are located at 5th and Ave. J. We hope to see you there!
This week we’d like to introduce you to STELLAH DIMBA and her beautiful beaded jewelry. Her crafting style is based on that which is made in her native homeland of Kenya, and her display is a feast for the eyes! Stellah was inspired to start making her wares back in college, but is just now bringing it to market. You will find all manner of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and ankle bracelets (I bought myself one!) in an array of colors, styles, and sizes…there are items for kids, too. Made with leather, seed beads, bones, and shells, Stellah makes unique items at reasonable prices. In addition to her market days, Stellah also does crafts fairs and uses those proceeds to support an orphanage in Kenya. Come down and support this special vendor!
We would like to thank everyone who came out to the market this week and look forward to seeing you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market on the LHUCA Plaza.
