Market Review Aug. 31
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
Whether the rain brought the cooler weather or the cooler weather brought the rain…we don’t really care. It was a fabulous morning for our 15th Market. We moved across the street to the Charles Adams Studio Project, surrendering our usual spot in the LHUCA Plaza for the Lubbock Live Music Benefit. We certainly appreciate Charles Adams and Chad Plunket for their continuing support!
Our vendors were set up and ready as we hit the 9:00 starting time. Our shoppers began to find their way to the CASP area and continued to meander through the Market though the morning. We had plenty of folks show up with Texas Tech apparel on, as this was opening day of the football season. We also had quite a few Tech students who were first time Market attendees. We love having our colleges students support our Market! We had a few of our local performers show up before they took the stage at the Lubbock Live event. We had guests from Ft. Worth, Covington, Louisiana, Minnesota, and believe it or not even a group from Germany! The Germans were quality engineers visiting the X-FAB facility. We had a very nice conversation, and they seemed to be enjoying their stay in the Hub City!
The cooler weather was enjoyed by all and made for an easy morning of strolling the area and shopping. I believe the Market has survived yet another blistering summer and we look forward to having cooler weather as we begin the last 7 weeks of our Market season. The produce we have is fresh and still plentiful with lots of great fruits and vegetables. Our bakers continue to offer all sorts of breads, pastries and good things to eat for our shoppers as they enjoy the Market. Local honey, homemade jams, and pickled goods are favorite items. Homemade lotions, soaps and healing salves are also available. We have a ton of items that our artisans make that are suitable for all types of gift occasions. Our vendors are small businesses and appreciate all of the shoppers who take time to come out and support our Market.
We always have families in attendance and we always have dogs. Our weekly Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day was a double shot of fun with Levi and Beverly taking the prize. Sometimes you just have to double up. Thanks Levi and Beverly for coming out and making us smile. We will be moving back to the LHUCA Plaza next week and hope that you will find a little time to come out and enjoy the cooler weather and our great Market. We are located at 5th and Ave. J from 9:00 to 1:00. See you there!
FEATURED VENDOR: THE LAVISH LEMON
And still another great new vendor to highlight! THE LAVISH LEMON is run by Sydney Stokes and Zackary Garcia, and they create awesome lemonade and limeade! Each drink is handmade, on site, right then, and to your specifications. The fruit is hand muddled! Organic raw sugar is added (or stevia as a sugar free choice), filtered water, then ice, and shook for maximum mixing! I wanted a lemon/lime combo, easy on the sugar, and it was perfect! They also offer a number of flavoring syrups if you want to jazz it up. They started their business just this year when they did a fund raiser for the Children’s Miracle Network. When that ended, they wanted to keep it going, and have done quite well! Nothing refreshes like a good lemonade on a hot day, and theirs is the real deal! So come give these young entrepreneurs your support!
Thanks to everyone who came to the August 31st market and we look forward to seeing you at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market at the LHUCA Plaza from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at 5th Street & Avenue J!
