Market Review Sept. 7th
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
The First Friday Art Trail celebrated it’s 20th Anniversary, and we at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market say congratulations! The morning after the Art Trail is always a little slower than usual, especially when the college football season starts. However, we added a couple of new vendors, and it stayed pretty steady until around 12:30. We are thankful for the new college students that visit us, and the support they bring. We get to interact with young people from all over the country who have chosen Texas Tech and Lubbock Christian University as their choice for higher education. These young people bring a sense of excitement with them as they stroll through our Market!
We continue to have old customers find us at our new location, and we are happy they have searched us out once again. We also had visitors from Iowa, Albuquerque, and Austin checking things out! The mild weather helped to make the day a very enjoyable time for all our vendors and shoppers. The sound of chatter and sincere laughter echoed around the Plaza throughout the morning. As we approach the cooler months the great harvest continues to bring us spectacular amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables. Apples, pears, watermelons and cantaloupes are being offered, and of course the onions, tomatoes, okra, and corn are all still coming in. And eggplant! Mary made some wonderful eggplant Parmesan last week!
We had our “Taste Of The Market” happening, which is sponsored by Sustainable Food Center. They were serving up samples of smoothies made from ingredients purchased from our Market. We always enjoy this added feature to our Market, and appreciate the Sustainable Food Center for all the good they do here in Lubbock and all around the state.
The morning went quickly and, from conversations with some of our vendors, we did well. Our dog friends showed up as well and this week we were happy to award Chiquita with the Red Bandana, which is given to our Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day. Thanks Chiquita for stopping by and being a part of our Market. There are still six more weeks of Market and plenty of time to come down and check things out. We are located in the Plaza at LHUCA on 5th and Ave. J. We are open from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and invite you to come on out and enjoy!
FEATURED VENDOR: SKY PLANTS N CREATIONS
The new vendor we are highlighting this week is Bathanie Gonzales with SKY PLANTS N CREATIONS. She and her partner Angel Mesa have a great love of plants, and are potting them up in cool containers for you to buy and enjoy at home. They also have cuttings in water if you want to plant it in your own pot or basket. They’ve been in business for about 6 months, and are just now trying to sell at our market, so come give them your support!
Thank you to everyone who came out to the September 7th market. We look forward to seeing you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market in the LHUCA Plaza.
