Market Review Aug. 16th
By Paul Bullock and Mary Gates
We set up our Market in the Charles Adams Studio Project’s parking lot just north of our usual place in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza. We surrendered our spot to the Foster Children’s HOME RUN event, which is an annual event that supports the noble cause of taking care of our communities foster kids. We thank Chad Plunket and Charles Adams for the continued support they extend to us whenever we need an alternate spot for our Market.
We have completed 12 Markets so far this year, so that puts us over the halfway mark for the season. We do 22 Markets each summer and by the time we get to this stage of the game we are really and truly a produce Market. We have four full time family farm vendors that bring in all sorts of fresh produce. Block 20, Sunburst Farms, Mandujano Brothers Produce and Faith to Farm are anchoring the Market as we hit the downhill side of the summer season. These hardworking farmers are bringing all sorts of great produce including Pecos watermelons and cantaloupes, sweet corn, black eyed peas, onions, tomatoes, peppers, squash, apples, potatoes, figs, and on and on. You really should visit the Market and support these wonderful family farmers. They are passionate people who devote so much time and effort into bringing wonderful food products to our Market! Don’t forget our farm vendors accept SNAP benefits, and they double your shopping dollar!
We had a couple of new vendors this week… Houston Custom T-shirts and Squeeze Me Lemonade. We are always happy to have new vendors come out and experience the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market.
We have several bakers to choose from with a great assortment of breads, rolls, cookies, mini sweet bread loafs, and macaroons. I got a nice zucchini bread I can’t wait to try!
We have so many artisans with gift ideas for all types of occasions..weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas…so come out and shop around for that special someone.
We are a family friendly market with stroller and wheelchair accessible surfaces and ramps. We encourage everybody to get together with family, friends and out of town visitors and see what we have to offer.

We are also dog friendly and we award our canine friends with a Tornado/Industrial Arts Dog of the Day Bandana. We had two special guests at our Market who stole the show this week, and so Ringo and Butter Cup take home the title. It’s great to have surprises like miniature horses show up and we appreciate Ringo and Butter Cup stopping by to see us. We will be in the CASP parking lot again next week due to another special event in the LHUCA Plaza. So please come on out and find us at 5th and Ave J. From 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. See you then.

FEATURED VENDOR: THUMBS UP BAKING COMPANY
While there, check out Josh Uzobuife with his booth THUMBS UP BAKING COMPANY. There you will find an array of his special concoctions, like red velvet cookies with cream cheese filling, salted caramel cookies, and beautiful little cheesecakes. This week Josh had white chocolate raspberry and lemon blueberry. Yum! This young man loves baking and experimenting with recipes, so no telling what he will come up with next week!

Thank you to everyone who visited our market this week and we look forward to seeing you next week at the Lubbbock Downtown Farmers Market.
