Market Review Aug. 23rd
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
What an absolutely beautiful morning we had as we set up in the Charles Adams Studio Project parking lot! For the second week in a row we say thanks to Chad Plunket and Charles Adams for their continued support of our Market. Lubbock Live: Festival for the Arts took our usual spot in the LHUCA Plaza. However we will return to the Plaza next week for our 14th Market of 2025.
The morning was pleasant, and the shoppers took advantage and began to arrive early. It was business as usual with a steady stream of people flooding the Market in search of great produce, baked goods and assorted handmade arts and crafts. Texas Tech students are back in town and we had quite a few lovely coeds grace our Market. Several of them were in Lubbock for the first time. I spoke to new Red Raiders from Temple, Texas and one from Nebraska! We had visitors from Albuquerque that were here visiting the Windmill Museum, a new Texas Tech Professor who had just arrived from Michigan, and visitors from Clovis and California. It is so interesting to get to talk to all these people who are coming to Lubbock for so many different reasons. They seem so excited to be here and we are so happy to greet them and make them feel at home.
We had a return visit from one of our favorite vendors Kent Crowell who brings his spin art and donates his earnings to the End Alzheimer Association. Kent brings a special joy and creates a great hands on art for young and old alike. Thanks Kent!
Our Market is in full swing boasting a huge variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. You just have to stop by to see the incredible harvest our farmers are offering. Sunburst Farms added peaches to their already wide variety of goods. Judy’s Veggies showed up with crates of home grown tomatoes, and a huge variety of beautiful house plants. Block 20, steady as ever, supplied onions, squash, eggplant, and figs. Mundujano Brothers Produce is bringing world famous Pecos cantaloupe and water melons. There is fresh okra, black eyed peas, pears, apples, cucumbers and so much more. We except SNAP and double your dollars. So stop buy and fill your shopping bags.
Our bakers are supplying great breads, pies, sweet rolls, and delicious cookies. We are very proud of our specialty bakers and hope you will come out and support these dedicated entrepreneurs. Don’t forget that if you have a need for a gift for a special person, our artists and craftspeople have a wonderful selection of items for almost any occasion. Our vendors are local small businesses and appreciate your support.

We love to see our canine friends and each week we award one furry friend with a Red Bandana that declares them as Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day. This week Aspen was so cool and calm and walked away with the title! Congratulations Aspen. As mentioned,we will move back to our regular spot next Saturday and set up in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza at 5th and Ave. J. We will be there at 9:00am and stick around until 1:00pm for your shopping convenience. See you there!
FEATURED VENDOR: SQUEEZE ME LEMONADE
And while you’re there, be sure to grab a fresh and refreshing lemonade from SQUEEZE ME LEMONADE. Katie Hicks and her crew of kids squeeze the lemons right before Market, and each order is made to your liking. They use pure cane sugar syrup for easy dissolving, and only as much as you want. There are also a number of fruity flavors, like dragonfruit and strawberry that you can add to liven it up. Last week they offered Tomatoade, with a fresh roma tomato muddled in. Creative! Katie started this business a mere month ago in order to have supplemental income for her family. So stop by and support this family endeavor.

Thanks for visiting our market. We look forward to seeing you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market in the LHUCA Plaza.
