Market Review Sept. 13th
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
September brings cooler weather and football. Lots and lots of football. These games sure cut into our Market numbers. The morning was absolutely gorgeous so we set up under blue skies and soft breezes, but the start was very slow. Our shoppers arrived in small bursts to start out, and then a steady stream of visitors showed up around 10:00 am.

We had several out of town visitors from San Antonio, and Dallas, and a couple of out of state visitors from Iowa and Oregon. I must say we have never had a visitor quite like the young man from Corvallis, Oregon, who was here to cheer on his Oregon State Beavers. He ran circles around the Energizer Bunny and helped to energize our Market as well. As a side note, Chuck and I saw him at the football game during the rain delay and he was going and going and going still! He made us smile for sure. He said everybody he encountered had been so nice! We love hearing that. One thing the home games do for us is bring a few out of town shoppers who are here for the game. We appreciate it when they come out to see what we have to offer at our Market.
Sometimes with a lower vendor count we have very good days, because people who show up are intent on spending a little money, and are able to support our vendors who are in attendance. The word was that everybody did pretty well. Several of our regulars showed up and wasted no time hitting their favorite vendors and filling up on all the goods that they have. Some even horde! One shopper bought 12 mini Banana Nut Breads from Lil’ Bite of Heaven swearing that the family recipe was the best banana bread she had ever eaten. Then Chuck told her that Emerald House Bakery has, some say, the best brownies in town… so she went and bought four brownies. We love that lots of our shoppers return specifically to buy their favorite produce and baked goods from our regular vendors. It’s about getting to know the small businesses that make up our Market.
Although we see a slow down in the Market during September, we are still here to provide our community with great fresh produce, delightful baked goods, and hand crafted items. It is prime harvest season and we offer a great selection of fruits and vegetables. We are participating in a double your dollars on SNAP benefits and encourage all SNAP recipients to stop by and make the most of their SNAP dollars.

We have plenty of gift items to offer for any occasion that might be on your calendar including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and holiday giving. Stop by and see what we have. We invite folks to bring the whole family and bring a few friends along too. Bring your furry friends with you. They get so excited and have more fun than you can imagine. We also declare one canine Tornado/Industrial Arts Dog of the Day and present a Red Bandana to the winner. Carmy was dressed so nicely and certainly deserved our Dog of the Day Award! Congratulations Carmy!
We still have plenty of Market time left this year. We have six more Markets that will take us all the way to October 18th. We hope you will find a little time to stop by and experience our Market. We are open from 9:00 to 1:00 on Saturday mornings. We are located in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza at 5th and Ave. J. Come on out and join us!
