Market Review Oct. 4th
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
Autumn is in the air, and the morning was cool and very refreshing. We had a quick set up with a bit of a lower vendor count, but hey, we are here to serve! So right on cue we got started. As always the shoppers showed up and we got to work. We can’t say thank you often enough to our regular customers who stop by every weekend, and fill their shopping bags with all the great produce that our farmers supply.
I spoke with Aileen with Sunburst Farms and she praised her regular customers that really help to keep her going strong. Likewise, Allison at Block 20 Produce also has a great group of regulars that show up to buy her farm goods every week. They are still bringing tomatoes, onions, peppers, eggplant, okra, black eyed peas, squash and lots of homemade jams and jellies too! These two ladies are our foundation and we appreciate all their hard work and devotion to our Market.
One of the most interesting visitors to our Market was a man from Hobbs who was participating in Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. This is an annual event that encourages amateur photographers to get out with their cameras and make their art. Photographers who participate send in their work and vie for awards for best photo. I had never heard of this, but if you get out, once in awhile you learn something new. Perhaps our visiting photographer will be one of the global winners with pictures from our humble Market! Part of the fun is there’s always something or someone different each week at our market.
We are getting into the time of year when people begin to start their holiday shopping, and we hope that you will keep us in mind when you make your shopping list. Need jewelry? We have several vendors that make wonderful pieces of jewelry. Paracord bracelets and stunning necklaces are available. There are lots of different styles of earrings if that’s what your looking for. There is so much to choose from if jewelry is your thing. How about incredible hand knitted comforters, and plushies for the kids? We have award winning children’s picture books illustrated by internationally acclaimed artist Nina Broen from Copenhagen. There are vendors who make wonderful soaps and lotions and beeswax candles.
We have bakers that work hard to bring fresh baked goods to our Market. If you enjoy sourdough bread or sweet treats we have plenty to choose from. There is nothing better than homemade baked goods in my opinion!
This family friendly Market is the place to be. There is something for everybody.

We are happy to invite family pets as well, and this week we choose two fine looking dogs to be our Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day. Ozzie and Panda travel together so of course we couldn’t just choose one! They are so proud of one another. We only have two more Markets left this year so don’t forget to stop by and pick up your produce or your holiday gift needs. We are located in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza at 5th and Ave. J. We hope to see you there next Saturday.
