August 31st Market Review
It was a great last August market even with all of the commotion going on! This week things were a little different as The Blue Light was hosting their 20th Anniversary with a street show this weekend, blocking some of the road we use to set up! This happens a few times during the season, so we utilize the Cactus Theatre parking lot on 19th & Texas. We appreciate our neighbors, vendors, and market goers for working with us during this time! LDFM will be hosting a food drive the next few markets so bring canned goods or leave a donation at the info booth!
As summer starts to come to an end and fall starts up, crops begin to slow down. Even with this, a holiday weekend, and a Tech game (Wreck ‘Em), LDFM had 40 vendors in attendance this week! We still have a great selection at the market, so come shop while you can! We still have Lots of summer veggies were available with squash, zucchini, green beans, okra, onions, tomatoes, black eyed peas, potatoes, corn, bell peppers, jalapenos and other spicy peppers, celery, carrots, lettuce, kale, chard, and more! We also had berries, strawberries, peaches, and melon varieties. Our vendors have a lot of knowledge they would love to share with you about all of their produce, where it comes from, how it grows, and even how to cook it. If you’re looking to start growing your own plants we have vendors who sell herb plants like basil and dill, as well as a vendor who sells citrus tree varieties like grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime!
We also have meat options at the market. Diamond C has bacon and sausage, many different types of beef including bones for broth, and different cuts as lamb as well. Holy Cow Beef, who you smell each week with the sausage on a stick, also carries varieties of beef, pork, chicken, and fish. They actually get their fish from another vendor who uses them in hydroponic farming (so be sure to ask questions to learn more!) We have Honey Hen farms also who sell whole chicken or cuts as well as eggs in different sizes. If you’re looking for egg variety Onion Shed farms has duck eggs!
Don’t forget about the sweet treats that you can get at the market! We have vendors that offer breads, sweet rolls, brownies, lollipops, cookies and more! We also have great snacks like Texas Trash, pork rinds, and more. Out food trucks offer great breakfast or lunch for you while you shop around and enjoy the market! The trucks will sometimes change each week so if we didn’t have the one you like maybe check back next week!
LDFM has more than just food, as we have lavender spa products, candles, balms, t-shirts, jewelry, and more. There are also vendors that sell dog treats, doggie bag holders, dog outfits, dog bandanas, shampoos, and paw balms! We are lucky enough to also have a great relationship with dogs here at LDFM, even having stands dedicated specifically for them such as treats and outfits! Many vendors provide water bowls to keep your furry friends well hydrated. Each week we take a photo of the Dog of The Day sponsored by The Tornado Gallery. This week we couldn’t decide on just one Tornado Gallery ‘Dog of the Day’ so we chose TWO!!! Congrats to Juliette and Gracie! Sit, Stay…Good Dog!!! ❤️❤️ These sweet dogs are from Dallas!
The Humane Society will be back this next week, as they are at the first of each market month giving you the chance to add a loving addition to your family.
