Market Review Sept. 21st
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
Wow! The summer has flown by, and now we find ourselves at the beginning of another beautiful autumn here in West Texas. With the new season comes cooler weather, football, and The South Plains Fair. We had our share of competition this week! However, we really held our own and had a pretty good customer turn out despite the aforementioned events, plus two other markets and the Lubbock Tattoo Expo. Some of our regular sellers were busy with those other events, which dropped our vendor count a little. Though the Market started out slow, the number of visitors picked up steadily throughout the morning.
We had visitors from Brady and Cedar Park, Texas and also from Iowa. I spoke with a children’s book author from Ukraine. She speaks 16 languages and has translated her books into several of those languages. She and her husband distribute their books to displaced families in Ukraine and other countries experiencing troubled times. As I have stated before, being a vendor is a wonderful way to meet people and get to hear their stories.
We had lots of people that were wearing Texas Tech gear who made their way to the Market prior to the game. We certainly appreciate the effort those shoppers showed in coming out early to support us. Our true blue vendors brought their produce, bakery goods, arts and crafts, wines and other assorted wares. We depend on you the shopper, and our vendors to make a successful Market place to visit.
We are still seeing lots of fresh produce and expect to continue to offer all types of fruits and vegetables through the final month of our Market. We had our neighbors at The Ice House hosting “The School of Rock” and the sounds of the kids rocking out with the music from the 60’s and 70’s was quite entertaining. We had a few School of Rock parents pop in to our Market and we appreciate their participation…Rock On!
Also we had the sounds of laughter and chatter and the occasional dog bark. We welcome our canine friends and each week we choose one dog to be our Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Dog! Lucky got lucky and won the coveted Red Bandanna that we present to our favorite canine visitor. Congratulations Lucky! Now we count down our final four weeks of Market, and hope that you will find a little time on Saturday morning to visit us and support our small business owners who make our Market a great place to shop. We are located at 5th and Ave. J in the LHUCA Plaza from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We hope to see you there!
FEATURED VENDOR: ALIALIOOOP BOUTIQUE
And while you’re there, stop by and say hello to Alianna Robles with ALIALIOOOP BOUTIQUE. She is a creative lady, making many different types of crafts. She crochets tote bags, summer tops, and scrunchies, sews scrunchies (checkout her Hipper Zipper scrunchies that has a pocket to hold keys, lip gloss, small whatevers)! Alianna also makes pretty soy wax candles, her own body and dish soap bars, various wax melts, AND beaded bracelets and keychains! Wow! She says that in the fall she offers knitted cardigans and scarfs, too. You are sure to find a nice gift or personal use item at Alianna’s booth!
Thank you to everyone who vitied the market and we hope to see you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market on the LHUCA Plaza.
