June 7th 2025 Review
We always welcome a cloud cover during the Market. We enjoy the cool shady weather as we set up. However, I must say that, after Thursday and Friday’s tornadic experience, there was a little anxiety as we looked up to see more black clouds hovering over us. The wind was a bit unsettled, but we got set up and we started right on time. The monthly First Friday Art Trail was canceled, and several vendors I spoke with were a bit disappointed that the weather had taken it’s toll on what is normally one of the best events that we vendors have to sell our goods.
But, we rallied on Market morning and got right back to business. The Market saw a quick start as folks arrived ready to shop. We love seeing our regulars showing up with their empty bags, and leaving the Plaza with their shopping bags full of goodies. The pace was fast and steady all morning and into the early afternoon. We are into our 3rd year at the LHUCA Plaza and still we have people that tell us that they last visited us when we were located on Buddy Holly Ave. We certainly enjoy having our old customers find us again. We had out of town guests too. This week I spoke with people from Wichita Falls and Austin. I also spoke with several people who were experiencing the Market for the first time!
Lots of folks find the Market a great place to meet friends and spend a bit of time catching up, as well as enjoying the interaction with all the different vendors that are at our Market. It seemed almost as if we had planned a family day, as we noticed quite a few groups touring the Market with the three generations represented. We really enjoy seeing these groups show up, as it verifies what a wonderful place it is for families to spend a couple hours together. Several new vendors were on hand, which helps us to keep things fresh and new for our shoppers. One of our new vendors was serving up fresh crepes, and another served mini pancakes with a great assortment of toppings! We had two food trucks join in, so our shoppers took advantage of all the great fresh food we have available. Plan on eating some tasty food next time you stop by.
Some of our farmers reported that their gardens had been damaged by the hail storms we had on Thursday evening, but they felt optimistic that they would be able to recover and continue to bring homegrown fresh produce to our Market. Right now the growing season is early and we offer root vegetables and leafy greens. Professor Pickle reported that the cucumbers are producing, so his famous pickles will be steadily available through the summer and early fall months. Pecans are being shelled and offered by several of our vendors. And then there’s Ethan’s wonderful mushroom selection! We have a very large variety of baked goods from several different vendors. We have handmade gifts galore! If you have gift giving events to attend, you can come to the Market and support small local businesses.
Our dog friendly Market always welcomes our canine friends and we always make sure the water bowl is full and fresh. We have treats for our furry friends and we award our weekly Tornado/Industrial Arts Dog of the Day Award to one special dog. This week we placed the coveted Red Bandana around Zoey’s neck and shouted “Atta girl for Zoey”! We hope you will bring your dogs out to experience the Market soon. We are located at 5th and Ave. J. in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza on Saturdays from 9:00am til 1:00pm. Make a point of stopping by soon.
