Market Review October 24
By Paul Bullock
We were thankful for beautiful weather as we set up one final time this year. We finished out the year, once again, using the Charles Adams Studio Project parking lot. There have been a few times this season that we have called on our friend Chad Plunket, who is always gracious and helpful. ‘
The Lubbock Ren-faire took our normal spot on the Plaza at Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts. . The people at LHUCA have been great to work with, and we would like to extend our heart felt thanks to them all.
Our vendors lined the west end of the parking lot, and our supporters had no trouble finding us. A beautiful grey standard male Poodle showed up, and He caused quite a stir! It seemed every vendor was on a mission to make sure this stray dog was not abandoned. In the end one of our vendors, Lazy Fox Farms, decided to take the handsome canine home until the owners could be found.
We want to say thank you to our farm families that are the engine that moves this Market. Sunburst Farms, Block 20, Forbes Family Backyard Farm and Faith2Farm supplied great fresh produce, jams, jellies, honey and smiling faces.
If I may comment on what wonderful chemistry our farmers bring to the Market. How they care for their commitment to their farms and fellow farmers. How our trades people KJ’s Paracord and Handmade by Holly, who work with their hands and minds to bring our market unique and special items of jewelry share their own special sense of sisterhood. Our bakers, who are essential for our Market, work many long hours in order to present their specialties to our customers. Jo’s Doughlights and Emerald House have been wonderful in bringing in the baked goods. Vendors like Slim’s Spices, Lazy Fox Farms, and Oklahoma Flats, who came on board late, made a difference.
Also a thank you to the vendors who participated occasionally. Having new vendors is so important for our success. We have had some really delightful people set their tents up in the Plaza with us this year. Phil Me Up Filipino Food truck prepared great hot food. We can’t thank you enough for the service you provided to the Market.
Being a regular vendor I see the loyal shoppers, and know many by name. We become acquainted with our faithful customers, and we exchange stories and look forward to seeing each other at the next Market. Thank you for taking time out of your Saturday mornings, for opening your wallets, and supporting the small businesses who need outlets in order to sell their wares. We know you, and recognize you for your constant support. To the occasional shopper, and to all the people from out of town who stopped by just to see what we offered, thank you also.
We so appreciate Max and Sarah, who take care of all our SNAP and WIC recipients. They help us to take part in this very important safety net for nutrition.
And how about that fun musical group Snail Farm! They provided really great tunes, arranged in such entertaining ways. It’s been a pleasure listening to you. We want also to say hurrah to all the Tornado Industrial/Arts Dogs of the Day, and the canine owners who shared their beautiful pets with us. The happy ending is that the Nameless Grey Poodle was awarded the final Red Bandana of the year and declared Dog of the Day!
And, of course, a great shout out to Chuck Green for getting there early and staying late at each of our Markets, and making it all possible! We all say thank you for the time, effort and care you put into the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market.
Again, we appreciate everybody for participating in the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market…see you next spring!
