September 26th Market Review
Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market had its eighteenth market in the 2020 season this past Saturday, September 26th with lots of fresh local produce to buy, and food trucks offering amazing food and beverages. There are only three markets left in the 2020 market season. We’re starting to feel the change of seasons as Fall is starting to make it’s presence felt! The weather was very pleasant in the early hours of Saturday’s market with temperatures in the mid 70s and a light breeze. The temperature rose to a comfortable upper 80s towards the end of the market. We are letting shoppers start buying items after 8:30 while some vendors are still setting up to take advantage of the early morning cooler temperatures. There were around 35 vendors at this market.
Because of the current COVID-19 conditions, LDFM has set up sanitizing stations, given guidelines to navigate the market at safe distances, all vendors now wear masks and we encourage our guests and vendors to stay home if they feel they may have symptoms. We are excited for the 2020 LDFM season, as are the vendors! We have many vendors returning, as well as many new ones. Some of our vendors have expanded what they are offering as well.
As we are getting deeper into the growing season more and more produce is coming in. Our vendors have squashes, melons, onions, tomatoes, okra, root veggies, Spinach, Spring Mix, Arugula, Baby Kale, Dill, Parsley, Rosemary, Mint, Rainbow Mix, Radish Shoots, Micro Cilantro, Sunflower Shoots, Fava Bean Shoots, Pea Shoots, Green Onions, Green Garlic, Fresh Shallots, Garlic Scapes, Radishes, Mushrooms and more. There are even some frozen and fresh shelled black-eyed peas, cantaloupes and melons still appearing at the market. The further into the season we get, the larger variety of fresh produce the vendors will have! The Fall produce have begun to appear at the market and have been increasing in recent weeks. We had a lot more pumpkins at this last market with a new vendor even bringing a full trailer load of fresh locally grown pumpkins!
More sweets are available as well like macaroons, cakes, scones, brownies and fried pies and we have a larger number of bakers with a great variety of baked goods at this market!
LDFM loves arts & crafts, and we have some great vendors who do as well. We had several popular jewelry and creative art vendors at Saturday’s market. There are plenty of Jewelry, T-Shirts, metal cutouts and creative arts vendors each Saturday.
The Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market provides a family friendly environment and offers a safe, exciting atmosphere in downtown Lubbock. We are also very dog friendly for our well-behaved, leashed four-legged visitors. Many of our vendors provide dog bowls to keep your fur babies well hydrated. Ivy Jo (pictured below) was our Tornado Industrial/Arts ‘Dog of the Day!’ If you see her tell her congratulations! The DOTD is selected at random every Saturday during the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market!
