June 28 Market Review
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
After last week’s wind storm, we were happy to have had a somewhat calm set up. We have been at the LHUCA Plaza for three years now, and occasionally we must surrender our space to accommodate another event. This week it was Pride Festival that needed the LHUCA area. It is a huge event that takes up the Plaza and much of the surrounding area. Thankfully, we have Charles Adams and Chad Plunket working with us whenever we need a different space, and we say thanks for all the CASP (Charles Adams Studio Project) folks for their support. We set up in the CASP area and got to work.
The size of the Pride event took parking away from us and that created a bit of a longer walk for our shoppers, but we saw a steady stream flowing into our area, and we appreciate the extra effort they all showed. Several of our usual vendors opted to sell at the Pride Event, so our booth numbers were down. That sometimes works in the favor of those who choose to stay for our Market. I inquired as to how vendors fared this week, and for the most part they did well. We had sellers from Sweetwater with canned goods, from Levelland with home made jewelry, and from Amarillo who have created miniature ceramic figurines. We appreciate the extra time and effort these out of town vendors put forth in order to be involved with our Market.
We had visitors from Plains and Petersburg. Also a couple out of state visitors from Florida. This is what we enjoy hearing! We love when our locals bring their out of town visitors and show off a little bit of what Lubbock has to offer. Thanks for keeping us in mind on your things to do lists when visitors arrive!
I noticed a short but consistent line at our SNAP booth. We are both happy and proud to be a part of this very valuable program. We have a dollar for dollar redemption system which doubles your SNAP dollars up to $30.00. This is a great program and we encourage all SNAP recipients to come out and see what we have to offer. We have great farmers who are bringing their fresh produce, which includes corn, cucumbers, onions, carrots, greens, squash and okra. Also available are breads, pastries, jams, pickled goods, local honey, cooking oils and more.
Before you go to a big brand store for your gift items, please try out our Market, as we have a very wide variety of arts and crafts suitable for all ages and all occasions. We are a community of small business owners and appreciate each and every customer that takes the time to find us and support us. Come on out and get to know our vendors and the products they create with a personal touch.

We invite all our dog owners to bring their best friends out for a walk through the Market where they will find lots of friendly faces and lots of pats on the head. We provide clean cool water and doggie treats as a bonus. We always have one special canine that we declare as the Tornado/Industrial Arts Dog of the Day. We present a Red Bandana to the winner, and as you can see Karl is especially proud of his brand new bandana! Looking good Karl!
We will be back in our usual spot next Saturday July 5th. Look for us in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza at 5th and Ave. J from 9:00 am til 1:00 pm.

FEATURED VENDOR: RAIDER PRODUCTIONS
This week we would like to introduce you to Robert Johnson with RAIDER PRODUCTIONS. He is using his 3-D printers to create coasters, keychains, sculptures, and kid toys, and more. He has been fascinated by the 3-D printing process since his high school teacher had a printer. He received his own upon graduating high school, and has been creating ever since. This is the first year he is bringing his wares to market, and so far he is doing well enough to make it his full time gig. Come down and support this young entrepenuer!

We hope to see you next week at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market on the LHUCA Plaza!
