Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market Review Aug 8th

We enjoyed yet another beautiful summer morning for our midway point of the Market. With 11 Markets under our belt, we now begin the downhill side. We look forward to serving our regular customers and making new friends as we prepare for the next 11 Saturday Markets.
We had our usual number of vendors, but we missed a few regulars due to their summer vacation time. However, we expect those vendors to be back with us as we move into week number 12.
The vacant spots were filled by Darcey with Gnarled Roots. She brought her handmade leather work and unique jewelry. Also onboard was Laine Herbal with her salves and homemade healing oils. Lit Brews brought their Bottled Lattes and their surprise book bundles. It’s a fun way to buy books not knowing what is wrapped up in the gift package. It is a version of Let’s Make a Deal…I’ll take door Number 2???? LaQuetta Purkiss also showed up with her stunning handmade jewelry.
Even before our 9:00 o’clock start time we had customers slipping in and getting us started. Of course the fresh produce is what gets the most attention. I noticed that our farmers Block 20 and Sunburst Farm had people lining up as we got the day started. If you are looking for corn, onions, tomatoes, squash, okra, black-eyed peas, eggplant and more get to the Market early. Those items go quick. Also if you are a SNAP recipient we have a great double your dollars deal that allows you to really get some great deals and stretch your SNAP credits.
We had several local artisans with their homemade jewelry, custom T-shirts, and children’s books. If you are looking for gifts, please stop by and support these small business owners.
With Texas Tech’s fall semester beginning in just a couple of weeks, we are welcoming new folks getting their kids enrolled and settled into their new adventure as college students. We had guests, from San Antonio, Houston, and out of state shoppers from Clovis and Atlanta.
Also The Lubbock Professional Wrestlers Club were setting up their ring in the CASP area for some evening matches, and we had a few of those guys stop by to check us out as well.
Of course we had several canine visitors, and we always bestow the title of Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day on one special dog. Juniper was our favorite for the day and he took home the prized Red Bandana!
The first half of our Market season flew by. We hope you will take the time to stop by and take a look around as we continue into the late summer and early fall months. We are located at 5th and Ave. J in the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza. We have music and lots of smiling faces to help you enjoy Lubbock’s oldest Farmers Market. Our facilities have wheelchair and baby stroller friendly surfaces We have clean and secure indoor bathrooms, and close and convenient parking areas. We hope to see you soon.
