Lubbock Downtown Farmer’s Market review for August 7th
August is here, school is just around the corner, and the Market is still going strong! We had a total of 50 vendors this week. That is a good strong number and we are happy to have each and every one of them. The West Texas wind showed up and as far as I can remember this was our first really breezy day of the Market. It kept it cooler than it would have been, but we had our first runaway vendor canopy! That will get you some attention! We had a pretty good turn out for shoppers. Not our best, but a little better than last week. We added a Thai food truck to the mix, but had some regular vendors not come. When that happens, we have customers that feel let down when they come for a specific vendor. We have so many vendors, however, that we hope our shoppers will carry on and look for other goods that are available.
Besides, it is not always about shopping! We have lots of regulars that show up simply to chat with friends and mingle. We are seeing the families show up, which makes for a nice Saturday morning outing for the kids. Our pet owners are always in full force and we love to have them out. We choose a special dog each week for the award of Tornado Industrial/Arts Dog of the week and we have a real cutey named Scout who walked away the winner for August 7th. Congratulations to Scout!
Now onto our vendors spotlight!
We have another meat vendor in DIAMOND C MEAT COMPANY. Danny & Quenette Collins live and raise their animals in Olton and have been doing so for 40 years. They’ve had their meat selling business since 2010 and have been coming to the market since 2013. They’ve never missed a Saturday! Their beef is natural pasture grass fed until the last 120 days, then are grain fed. They work with @ 150 head, do their own breeding, and have Hereford and Hereford/Angus. They also offer lamb and pork. Their son decided to try offering dog treats as well, which are made by The Pound Bakery and seem to be selling well!
BLONDIES is new this year and offers a huge array of homemade canned goods! Cindy Wright has always enjoyed cooking and has been employed full time at Sugarbakers for 11 years. She decided to go part time in order to try her hand at commercial production and works hard at creating her recipes. She grows her own vegetables, and offers pickles, salsas, corn relish, chipolte BBQ sauce, jalapeno syrup, jalapeno honey mustard, chow chow, and a variety of jams. Cindy offers samples of most of her goods, and has perfected the spicy seasoned salt for the tortilla chips! Also on hand are her unique brisket queso, and charro beans. You can find her recipes at saltandseason.com.
For wine lovers, there is ADELPHOS CELLARS, a vineyard located right here in Lubbock County! The word Adelphos is Greek for brothers, as they began their wine making adventure with very close friends. Owners Jim & Barbara Irwin grow an amazing array of grapes on 21 acres. Included in their varietals are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Chenin Blanc. Their daughter Sara Timmons is the knowledgable and personable front person, as well as the promotions expert. Her brother Garrett is the vineyard manager, and their wine maker is Manuel Lechuga, who has 30 years experience in this field. These are award winning Texas crafted wines, and they are happy to offer samples for your decision making process. Visit www.adelposcellars.com for more info.
Every week is different and that will continue to be the case as we move on through the Market season. We encourage you to stop by 19th and Buddy Holly Ave. between 9am and 1 pm every Saturday. The Market will continue to serve you into mid October. We appreciate all those who we see on a regular basis. Thank you all very much.
