Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market June 13th Market Review
By Paul Bullock & Mary Gates
After last week’s rain out we returned to the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Plaza, and made week number four happen. It is June and it’s hot. We had a slight breeze early on that strengthened as the morning continued.
This week’s market consisted of about 25 vendors with all types of wares for shoppers to choose from. We also had great music performed by Snail Farm.
The flow of customers started slow, but picked up around 10:00 and stayed pretty steady until around 12:30. Then the heat began to really set in. We always advise our patrons to come early to avoid the hotter part of the day.
This year we have added some new vendors to our list, including Dark Buffalo Jewelry, specializing in Authentic Native American jewelry. We have a 3D printing artist making great little animal figures for the kids. There are handmade purses constructed with recycled fabrics. Memorable Magnet Company is making personal or advertising magnets on the spot. Whiskey Lantern Bakehouse is on board this year with a multitude of different scones. Come out and enjoy a stop at Texas Cowboy Kool-Aid and pick up a refreshing drink while you shop. For the dog lovers we welcome Dirt City Dog Biscuits making handmade treats for your best friends. We are happy to have a T-shirt printer who has their own designs promoting our Red Raiders. The Yarnbarn has a great selection of Plushies.
There are the returning vendors as well. Stella’s African Jewerly and LaQuetta Purkiss with her finely made gemstone jewerly… Lil’ Bites of Heaven with wonderful homemade breads, including banana and zucchini from 100 year old family recipes… Jo’s Doughlights with her beautiful organic sourdough loaves… Karen with KJ’s Paracord and Holly with Handmade by Holly presenting her beadwork.
Of course we wouldn’t be a farmers market without our farmers. Block 20, Sunburst Farms, Forbes Backyard Farm. We are just getting started in the growing season with high hopes as the summer moves on.

We are always happy to have our four legged friends stop by, and we always present one of our favorite canines to be the Torando Industrial/Arts Dog of the Day. Meet Ollie. He charmed us and took home the prize.
We hope that you will take a trip downtown on Saturday mornings between 9:00am and 1:00pm and check out our Market. We are located at 5th and Avenue J. Come out and meet the vendors and perhaps take home some produce or fine baked goods.
We have gifts for all occassions and encourage you to support our local small businesses right here at the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market.
